Indian people, however, are very competitive in sports. Life is not a game. Indian participants, a few of them self-identified, appeared
almost exclusively on Native-L. Almost all of the scholar-teachers of Native American religions were not members of the electronic lists but
colleagues whose responses I solicited and then funnelled to the lists. Indian Tribes are sovereign entities that have a
government-to-government relationship with the U.S. Tribal sovereignty is inherent and pre-dates the formation of the United States
government.
Indian Territory, to invert a statement by Baudrillard in Simulacra and Simulations, both "precedes the map, [and] survives it" (Vizenor 9).
This process is brilliantly illustrated in James Welch's novel Fools Crow, where, in Chapter 25, Welch describes a young white man's vision of
the landscape of Indian country. Indian: You know, I can see and agree to some extent on your interpretation of this article. In a way it almost
paints this picture of a dying U.S. Indian tribes decide who their members are. Not belonging to a tribe or having non-Indian ancestry
does not necessarily mean a person is not an Indian.
Indians or Mexicans or whites--most people are afraid of change. They think that if their children have the same color of
skin, the same color of eyes that nothing is changing. Indian wisdom teaches that we are each born with a special characteristic, one of the Four
Great Powers. At the south of the wheel, the mouse represents innocence and trust. Indians were the ones who'd gotten short-changed by the
Establishment, lied to, used, etc. Who couldn't identify with that ?
Indians though have a great sense and understanding of history. They
preserved and documented their history through oral literature, paintings and carvings, dance and song.
students
Students meet together weekly during the semester. The upper division students often talk about clinical assignments and succeeding in course
work and career possibilities. Students may see a diorama of Plains Indians incorporating canoes from the Northeast and a totem from the
Northwest combined with the teepees from the Central Plains. Either through misunderstanding or a lack of knowledge, teachers are perpetuating
the idea that all Native Americans were and are the same. Students in the summer option will receive a financial packet that includes tuition and
fees for all coursework, a summer living stipend along with a one-time relocation stipend. The financial packet for students enrolled in
the semester-long option will include tuition and fees for all coursework, a monthly stipend, along with a one-time stipend to cover relocation
costs.
Student docents conduct the tours for the 3,000-5,000 elementary school children who come from as far as 85 miles away to see this example of
living history.

Traditionally, most services offered by tribes focus primarily on the needs of women and children. Little attention was given
to the unique needs of men as they struggle to become valuable participants in the family unit. Traditional Native American values can come into
conflict with those of the mainstream, particularly when efforts are not made toward exploring and understanding these differences within their
cultural context. As a result, inaccurate and/or overgeneralized stereotypes may be perpetuated, further complicating attempts to care for and
provide services to Native American elderly.
