Insects are healthy to eat − they have protein, not much fat, and lots of elements, such as calcium, that make us strong. The only real reason for not eating insects is that we just don't seem to fancy the idea, and we could probably get over that. Insects are attracted by certain odors and colors. The garbage area should be well away from the play area and should be kept clean. Insects are the most diverse group of organisms in the 3 billion-year history of life on Earth, and the most ecologically dominant animals on land. Insects are differentiated from the others in this group by the presence of three main body parts (head, thorax, and abdomen), a pair of antennae, three pairs of legs, and distinguishing mouthparts. Fortunately for us gardeners, any one area has a minute subset of the insect species and population. Insects are also a good source of vitamins , and of minerals, such as phosphorus and iron.

Energy inputs, whether from the riparian zone (e.g., leaves, sticks, pine needles) or within the stream (e.g., algae, aquatic plants, periphyton), drive stream systems. Insects are vital pollinators, essential to most of our food crops, flowers, and other plants. Many insects are important predators of pests in our gardens. Insects are vital to the immense cycle of life, furnishing food for other creatures and breaking down natural materials to chemicals and nutrients for recycling into new life. Whirling, buzzing, singing, chewing, vibrating with energy, they are all around us.

Insects are the most diverse group of animals. There are ~750,000 species of insects already described and conservative estimates suggest that there are 1.5 million species waiting to be discovered. Insects are efficient recyclers of organic matter and they can provide a reliable and sustainable source of food for humans and/or animals, provided appropriate breeding methods are developed. Raising insects is relatively easy: they require minimal space and have a better conversion (feed to meat) ratio than any other meat. Insects are the most successful survivors on the earth. Insects are the dominant life form on earth, it can be argued.

Insects are also used in medicine and agriculture, serve as omens, and are even the object of board games. And for the Mofu, certain insects "speak" while others, like bees and mosquitoes, are socially neutral. Insects are different from most other invertebrates. They are the largest Class of organisms and account for over 75% of all animal species. Insects are among the most important weavers of the web of life.

Insects are also used for amusement, for example, releasing of large quantities of fireflies was used for imperial entertainment. Guoguo (Orthoptera: Tettigoniidae, Gampsocleis gratiosa) is a long-horn grasshopper used as a pet, mostly for people in Northern China. Insects are coldblooded and are, divided into 32 orders, or groups, the largest of which are beetles. This group alone contains 125 different families and 500,000 different species. Insects are on a par with shellfish in providing high-quality protein and are a good source of other nutrients such as iron, calcium and B vitamins. There's a much higher chance of catching a disease from a mammal than an insect.

Insects are hard to ignore! They are everywhere in the world around us. Insects are cold-blooded and they see and respond best to ultraviolet energy mercury vapor light. Use long-handled dip nets daily to gather insects, leaves and other debris falling into the water. Insects are not able to mate and reproduce until they undergo their final moult or emerge from a pupa as a winged adult. Wings do not appear until the final moult (the one exception to this is the Ephemeroptera, or Mayflies).

Insects are arthropods that have a body with three segments, six legs and one set of antennae. These body parts make them different from all other arthropods. Insects are a natural part of gardening. As you read this there is a veritable Wild Kingdom of activity going on out in your yard, with insects breeding, eating and eating each other. Insects are the only animals besides birds and bats to have wings. Most adult insects have two (flies) or four wings (wasps).

Insects are abundant in most habitats, including in terrestrial, freshwater, and brackish water environments and can be found in extreme environments such as hot, dry deserts or well above timberline at high elevation. Interestingly, only a few insects have colonized the marine environment. Insects are easy to raise. There is no manure forking.
